The BIG Apple event is over and the best report that I could find is from MacCentral. Here's MacWEEK's take. Here's NEWS.COM's story 1 and story 2. Finally, here are Apple's press releases on a newly-designed site. I'm glad I'm not an anthropologist because I misread one of the hieroglyphics on Apple's home page, i.e. the cookie. The cookie is a chocolate chip cookie which according to Apple represents the new G3 (PowerPC 750) CPU chip in the new PowerMacs and PowerBook. Nothing unexpected was announced. Check out the new Apple store and the new PowerMac and PowerBook G3's. MacWEEK has review 1 and review 2. Yes, the PowerMacs come with EIDE hard drives rather than SCSI drives and Apple offers no SCSI substitute. However, EIDE drives have a relatively good track record in mid-range PCs. The graphics capabilities look real good to a non-professional but unfortunately the desktops won't take 128 MB SRAM DIMMS and so are limited to 192 MB in their three slots--the minitower will take 384 MB. For "everyperson" Mac user, the RAM limits are not problems.
