Day 21

Today is my final report on BMW's 21-day CyberDrive. Was that a cheer? Well, I've enjoyed the Macromedia and Apple video streaming and VR technology, great pictures and interesting stuff. I found all of the souvenirs so I'll really be happy if I win something, especially the BMW Z3 or the PowerMac 6500. Yesterday was Day 21 and BMW saved the best for last. I was given an M3 to drive to the Nurburgring race track. First, there was an interesting game of trying to hit the correct shift points at the correct time as I raced around the track--not too easily done except on the demo. Second, there were great QuickTime movies from inside an M5 as I sat with the driver racing over various segments of the track and hit a virtual 145 MPH on the long final straightaway. The public can drive their own cars (or a suitable rental) on this track so if I win the Z3, I'll take a European delivery and drive Nurburgring!

There are a few new tidbits (stability, new Desktop Pictures control panel and "About This Computer" control panel) on For MacOS Users Only!'s Mac OS 8 Installation and Use Page. The big news is STABILITY! No crashes in 5 days of heavy use.
