Mac OS 8

The handling time of some ordinary floppy disk operations by Mac OS 8 is significantly slower than by Mac OS 7.6.1. First, I booted a full high density diskette. On a PowerBase 180 and a 7100/80, it took 12 seconds under 7.6.1 but 16 and 19 seconds respectively under 8.0. Second, I opened a 40-item file on the diskette. Mac OS 7.6.1 took about 1 second for both computers but with 8.0 it took 6 seconds for each. The latter operation took 8 seconds on a PowerBook 3400/180 with Mac OS 8.
