Macs Only!

A frequent reader of Macs Only! who wishes to remain anonymous sent the following message:
"I have found a program called MacWinNuke that will crash any windows computer, just by typng in an Ip address. Needless to say, this is quite a LARGE ... security hole, and reason enough to buy a mac or unix box. Even the latest version of Nt with service pack 3 is affected.

Maybe this should be mentioned in the mag- an article about mac security. ther are so many bugs with 95, but this one is very, very serious, seeing that you need no hacking knowledge.

Anyway, this program works, almost too well, and none of the patches out there seem to make any difference. It woulod be pretty easy for someone with the source code and a knowledge of C to write an app that automaically detects clients on the network and crashes them. And you can do this over the net, too.."

I have not found this program nor do I encourage anyone to look for it, much less use it. It is scary that such programs exist--remember the "Ping of Death" attacks on Mac servers, now protected against such attacks?
