The Chicken Little's have staged an onslaught. Henry Norr, editor emeritus of MacWEEK and whom I greatly respect, has written another article called The Big Lie to go with his 8/22 "numbers" piece, resulting in me getting (not purposefully of course) a ton more email about choosing between Norr's credibility and that of Steve Jobs. That's not a choice that I should or even could make. Neither Norr nor I have all the facts to draw a firm conclusion. He's due his opinion, of course, but without the facts his numbers certainly don't add up to "The Big Lie" or anything that would change Apple's officers' fiduciary duty is to its shareholders. Time will tell but it seems to me that every entity, including Power, has made out in the Apple/Power deal, especially including Motorola, its sub-licensees (most of the rest of the cloners) and UMAX. Remember that aside from the Wintels that Power was their main competition. If they are more successful in penetrating the lowend and business enterprise markets as a result, then they may be able to pay Apple what Apple calculates it needs to exercise its responsibility to its shareholders. However, I do agree that Norr's numbers are interesting, if only part of the story, and worth investigating. How? Everyone who wants a look and a change should buy 1000 or more shares of Apple's stock. Then give their proxy to a champion who can then find out the facts and change things if the facts are different from those we've been led to believe by Apple's management. We macheads cutting off our noses by looking for alternatives to Macs or running in circles wringing our hands and crying out will do nothing but help sink Apple--let's get a grip. Basta!
