Aladdin On MindExpander

"It has come to Aladdin's attention that MindVision has released a product to compete with Aladdin's FREE access tools StuffIt Expander(tm) and Aladdin Expander(tm). We'd like to clarify some of the statements MindVision has made so customers have an accurate view of the products and their abilities.

MindExpander 1.0 claims to access the following formats: .sit, .sea, .zip, .bin and .hqx. Beware that MindExpander DOES NOT access the StuffIt 5.x format, which has been available for almost a year now. MindVision also excludes the fact that MindExpander can access only old StuffIt archives. Meanwhile, StuffIt Expander supports the free expansion and decoding of the following formats: .sea, .sit, .pf, .img, .smi, .hqx, .bin, .uu, .uue, .zip, .tgz and .gz. Plus, with the StuffIt engine installed, even MORE files can be accessed, including .arc, .pkg, .cpt, .lzh, .mime, .tar, .z and .tgz. Also, take into consideration that all Macintosh users with version 8.x [of the Mac OS] and higher already HAVE StuffIt Expander and the engine installed on their machine.

MindExpander looks for StuffIt Expander to do the work for it, since StuffIt Expander can access many more files than MindExpander can and StuffIt is already installed on most machines. So, if you need StuffIt Expander to do what MindExpander can't, and StuffIt Expander accesses a whole lot more, why not just use StuffIt Expander in the first place, and not worry about yet another application on your machine."
