Mac OS 8.6 Problems & Fixes
1. E4 CoolDVD drive (replacing the original CD drive) The CoolDVD application would launch after updating to Mac OS 8.6, but it would not actually play any DVD Movies (I did not test it with a DVD-ROM disk, but since regular CDs and CD-ROMs worked I would guess it was fine). The problem was the "Apple CD/DVD Driver" version 1.2.2. I re-installed the version 1.1 "Apple CD/DVD Driver that comes with the CoolDVD 1.6 installer and now it plays movies just fine.
2. Keyspan USB PCI card My Logitech QuickCam VC worked just fine with the original Mac USB drivers (version 1.1) and the original QuickCam extensions. But, when plugged-in, my Tangerine ContourDesign UniMouse would invoke the "There is not enough power for the USB device 'unknown'" error message. Updating the Mac USB DDK drivers (version 1.2) got me past that message BUT the mouse will not function after a cold start up if the UniMouse Overdrive Control Panel & Extension are loaded. The mouse will only function using the customized USB Overdrive Control Panel on a RESTART or by unplugging and replugging-in the mouse. If I use one of the "drop-in" extensions without the USB Overdrive everything is just fine. The same happens with the original USB Overdrive (non UniMouse customized version)."
