Code Red 2 Worm Wriggles On
Microsoft is working on a patch to the patch to its vulnerable Internet Information Server v4 and 5 running on Windows 2000 according to this eWeek article. It leaves a backdoor or way to break into the server at a later date. The worm does not attack the much more common Windows NT 4 servers either by design or mistake but could with a simple modification. Our cable modem's data light continues to flash like a maniac as do the modems of many of our readers. RoadRunner sent us an email today asking if we are running Windows 2000, we aren't of course, to download M$'s patch and reboot. It doesn't mention Windows XP rc1 or rc2 which are built on a Windows 2000 foundation. [Dana Baggett]
