We received this related note from reader Jeff Maxwell,
"Apple is no longer a PEPPM approved supplier [in Pennsylvania].
"I just tried to use some PA state money to buy iMacs. I went to www.peppm.com and could not find Apple listed anywhere. Having used the site last year to buy Mac's I thought I must be just looking in the wrong place so I called, and they told me the bad news.
"This means that you can't use state money in PA to buy Apple computers but you can buy any type of pc.
"How could apple let this happen?"
...by being asleep at the switch? Apparently, the Disciples of Redmond are relentless in their attacks on the Mac. However, these attacks can be overcome as Apple demonstrated in winning a vendor spot in Michigan education despite the procurement criteria being stacked against Apple through the inclusion of irrelevant specifications as we noted on 12/22.
Finally, we received this sad note from reader Steve Adams,
"My district of 33,000 students in central California was solid Mac until a few years ago but a new Technology head put an end to that.
"Now out of a district office of hundreds of PC's I think I have the only Mac left. In the classroom, teachers are being moved off of Macs as fast as possible.
"I don't agree with all this and will always hold on to my Mac, but its a fact of life. The Macs are gone from our district."
