Macworld Expo Keynote--Streaming QuickTime Report

Again, both Dana Baggett and Neal Emerald commented on their experiences. Dana has an iMac 350 SL with a 56K modem connection and QuickTime 5 beta in the hinterlands of Maine. Neal has a Power Mac G4 450 with a T3 connection and QuickTime 4.1.2 at George Mason University, located in Prince William County just west of Manassas, Virginia.

Dana says, "I watched all of Steve's presentation today - a first on my dialup 48K connection. The video was excellent; audio was occasionally out of sync and cut out for a few seconds every so often but clear and good fidelity.. On the whole, a vast improvement for reception in the hinterlands thanks to QT 5 beta."

Neal says. "Upon connecting to the Keynote, I immediately experienced stuttering frames, extremely poor quality video, and video which did not keep up with the audio stream. Eventually, the whole stream locked up. I restarted and reconnected and got a very high quality stream. I was able to watch about one hour of the Keynote and then without warning, I was disconnected from the stream. I restarted and reconnected and was never able to obtain the same high quality stream. I had to restart and reconnect six times to watch the remaining portion of the Keynote."
