QuickTime 5.0.1 Out Before 5.0 Final?

Seems odd to us but the availability of QT 5.0.1 was carried on various web sites on Saturday. We tried unsuccessfully to get it from the update panel of QT 5.0 Preview Release 3's QuickTime Settings control panel and by downloading and installing QT 4.1.2, the recommended workaround. Subsequently, notes were posted on web sites that the 5.0.1 updater had been pulled by Apple. Following those messages, however, we were able to get QuickTime 5.0.1 b19 with the update function in the developer site release version of QuickTime 5.09beta. Perhaps this is the source of the weekend confusion? [Update: Well, Apple released QuickTime 5.0.1 early today PT. It is available via the QuickTime Settings control panel "Update Check" in v5.0 PR3 or as a standalone updater downloadable from the QuickTime Download page, bottom left.]

[9:00a ET] Linksys Wireless Access Point/Card Gives AirPort a Run For Its Money: On Sunday Best Buy will offer the Linksys Wireless Access Point (WAP11) for $180 after various instant ($100) and mail-in ($20) rebates. While Linksys' design (rabbit ears on a router) is nowhere near as cool as Apple's AirPort Base Station, it works with AirPort cards and non-Apple wireless PCMCIA cards according to reviews. Best Buy also has the Linksys wireless PCMCIA card for $80--we have not seen a review of this card in Macs. [Update: We were unable to get the PC card to work on our AirPort network with a PowerBook G3 2000 or 2400c or even a Compaq Presario with the PCI adapter card. We are now also sceptical of the access point.]
