[Updated] Tip--Data Transfer Between Two Macs: If one has two computers and wants to transfer data between them using an ethernet connection, one can:

1: Connect each computer to an ethernet hub, switch or router, or
2: Use an AirPort (wireless) network, or
3: Connect each computer to the other with an ethernet crossover (reverse) cable.

However, if one is a Mac that came out in 2001, i.e. a Power Mac G4 (Digital Audio or Quicksilver), a PowerBook G4 Titanium (Rev.A, B or C) or an iBook (Dual USB), then an ethernet crossover (reverse) cable is not needed. Any ethernet cable will do because the ethernet card in the 2001 Macs will automatically sense whether a reverse or straight connection is needed. [Update] If one Mac has a factory FireWire port and the other Mac has any kind of FireWire port, then connecting both with a 6 pin FireWire cable and starting up the former in FireWire Target Disk mode is the fastest way to transfer data. Also, there are no troubles with setting up File Sharing either. [Doug M.]
