National Anti-Spam Bill Passed Congress

late yesterday according to this AP article on Excite News. While the House approved the slightly improved version returned from the Senate, the bill still pre-empts stricter state laws, is opt out rather than opt in (and then, if and only if the FTC sets up a do not spam list) and prohibit's consumer lawsuits. The White House has indicated that the President will sign the bill. We don't think it will do much to stem egregious spamming but let's wait and see before condemning it. [Dana Baggett]
