Microsoft Xbox 360 Demos Run on Apple Power Mac G5s

As most gamers know, Microsoft just announced its new Xbox 360 game machine. It will run on three 3.2GHz symmetrical core IBM PowerPC processors so similar to Apple's G5, also made by IBM, that Microsoft has been demoing its Xbox 360 graphics using Apple Power Mac G5s according to a quote appearing on CNet:

"We purchased a number of Apple G5's because very specific hardware components of the G5 allow developers to emulate some of the technology behind future Xbox products and services," a Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement. "This is an interim development tool that will be replaced with a more powerful and comprehensive solution later."

This raises the possibility of Power Mac G5s running faster than 3GHz by this December since that is when the Xbox 360s are scheduled to be released. More... [Bill Fox]
