14th Annual Mac Computer Expo at Santa Rosa Junior College this Weekend
Non-profit NCMUG has been supporting computer users in the North Bay for over twenty years. This year more than two dozen software and accessory vendors will team up along with nine nationally known experts and authors as NCMUG and SRJC sponsor the largest gathering of Apple Macintosh enthusiasts in Northern California, aside from Macworld held in January each year in San Francisco.
Vendors attending will include Microsoft, Monster Cable, MacAddict, Macworld Publishing, and Sonoma County's O'Reilly Media and Micromat. Exhibits, demonstrations, and raffle prizes will also be featured throughout the day. Free computer recycling dropoff to be provided by Computer Recycling Center.
The fun continues on Sunday, October 8, when Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) Community Education department will be presenting "Painting with Photoshop" by digital photo-realist artist, Bert Monroy and "Digital Photography Made Amazing" by author and professional photographer, Derrick Story.
Bert Monroy will give an in-depth look at some of the more intricate features of Adobe Photoshop usually overlooked by most users and will inspire you to explore the creative side of Photoshop usage. He will give you a fuller understanding of the intricacies of layers and channels and how to use them effectively in the creation of images as well as demonstrate how to use filters in ways you never thought possible. Mr. Monroy, an accomplished teacher and lecturer, was inducted into the Photoshop Hall of Fame in 2004. His roster of clients include Pixar, Apple Computers and Adobe Systems.
Derrick Story will show how to apply techniques to your consumer digital camera that professionals have been using for years. First you'll master all of those buttons and dials. Then you'll learn how to use those controls to tame your flash, capture action, and get close-ups. You'll even see how easy it is to take studio quality portraits at home and capture National Geographic-like photos on the road. Mr. Story is a photographer and writer. He has authored "Digital Photography Hacks," "Digital Photography Pocket Guide" and co-authored the popular series, "iPhoto: The Missing manual" with David Pogue. He is a podcaster and a managing editor at O'Reilly Media.
SRJC is located on Mendocino Avenue in Santa Rosa between the College Avenue and Steel Lane exits east of Highway 101. Admission to the Expo is free but SRJC charges a $3.00 fee for on campus parking. Further information is available at www.ncmug.org. [Bill Fox]
