Apple Released Wireless Bluetooth Mighty Mouse
On the heals of the disclosure that Apple had applied to the FCC for approval of a Bluetooth wireless Mighty Mouse, code-named "M6," Apple released it. The wireless Mighty Mouse is identical to the original Mighty Mouse with a 360o scroll ball, two "button" capability and side buttons except that it uses wireless Bluetooth instead of a USB cable to connect to the computer. It retails for $69.
[Update] We bought a Mighty Mouse with USB cord when it first came out and have come to love it for every day use. The 360o scroll ball is its best feaure, followed by the second "button." We don't use the side buttons at all because they are somewhat ergonomically difficult to use and we have found that we don't really need more functions out of a mouse than are provided by two "buttons" and the scroll ball since the Might Mouse is not particulary good for fast 3D games.
The second "button", produced by moving one's finger from the left side of the scroll ball to the right before clicking is very useful but we frequently find ourselves mindlessly using a control key-click instead since we have done that for so many years. Some people have complained about having to move a finger or alternatively lifting a finger if two are used, but it was easy for us to learn to move our finger for the right click because we have only used a multi-button mouse, a Microsoft Explorer, for 3D games. We find the Mighty Mouse's scroll ball much easier to use for every day use than the scroll wheel on the Microsoft Explorer. It is also much, much easier to use for horizontal scrolling than tilting a scroll wheel.
Removing the USB cable from a Mighty Mouse frees up a USB port and eliminates the mess of a cable. [Bill Fox]
