Apple Replaced the eMac with an $899 iMac Core Duo for Education

Apple released a special LCD-based iMac Core Duo for education at $899, replacing the CRT-based eMac. To reduce the low-end 1.83GHz iMac's price of $1299 by $400, Apple replaced the iMac's ATI Radeon X1600 graphics with the Intel GMA 950 integrated graphics used in the Intel-based Mac mini and MacBook, the DVD-burning 8x SuperDrive with a CD-burning 24x combo drive and the 160GB hard drive with an 80GB model and eliminated Bluetooth and the infrared Apple Remote. Nothing was dropped from the iMac software bundle. The new education iMac is available only from Apple's Education Store and educational institutions selling Apple products. [Bill Fox]
