Brief Hands-On Report--AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001

Apple released AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 and it is available for download via Software Update if you have AirPort Utility 5.0 installed that came with Apple's new AirPort Extreme 'n' Base Station or as a stand-alone file from this Apple Web page.

According to Apple,

The AirPort Base Station Update 2007-001 includes general fixes, compatibility updates, and security improvements for the following applications:

- AirPort Utility
- AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations
- AirPort Disk Utility
- AirPort Disk Agent

We downloaded the update via Software Update and installed it on several Macs that had AirPort Utility already installed with no problem. AirPort Utility came with our new Apple AirPort Extreme 'n' Base Station and it replaced the older AirPort Admin Utility. When we downloaded the update as a stand-alone file and tried it on several Macs without AirPort Utility installed, it wouldn't run.

We opened AirPort Utility 5.1 and accessed our new AirPort Extreme 'n', old AirPort Extreme 'g' and AirPort Express Base Stations and encountered no issues. We no longer have an older graphite or snow AirPort 'b' Base Station so we couldn't test AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow Base Stations v4.2.5. [Bill Fox & Dana Baggett]
