Brief Hands-On Report--Apple released Firmware 7.2.1 for AirPort Extreme "n" Base Stations
The AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n* and Firmware 7.2.1 is Wi-Fi certified for 802.11n draft 2.0. This update also includes bug fixes and security updates.
The details of the security fix are:
CVE-2007-2242--Remote attackers may be able to adversely affect network performance. A design issue exists in the IPv6 protocol's handling of type 0 routing headers. Depending on network topology and capacity, the reception of specially crafted IPv6 packets may lead to a reduction in network bandwidth. This update addresses the issue by disabling the support for type 0 routing headers. This issue does not affect the Gigabit Ethernet version of AirPort Extreme Base Station with 802.11n*.
We installed the firmware update via AirPort Utility. No problems were encountered during installation nor in the performance of our AirPort Extreme "n" Base Station afterward. [Bill Fox & Dana Baggett]
