iPhone to introduce Next Generation User Interface?

According to Mike Elgan's blog on Digit, we are waiting for the next generation computer user interface after the original command line interface (CLI) and the current graphical user interface (GUI) introduced by Apple with the Mac. Apple didn't invent the GUI, Xerox did, but Apple first employed it in a commercial product. Similarly, Elgan believes that Apple's iPhone will employ the next generation user interface, the multi-touch user interface as presented a year ago at the 2006 Technology Entertainment Design (TED) conference in Monterey, CA, by Jeff Han, a researcher at New York University's Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences.

Jeff Han's demonstration in this video is quite compelling and the iPhone, indeed, will employ a multi-touch interface with gestures. [Dana Baggett]
