New AirPort Extreme "N" Base Station--Status Light Flashing Amber, Why?

So you've set up and configured your new AirPort Extreme 802.11n Base Station but you don't get a steady green status light. You get a flashing amber light instead. What does this mean? Macs Only! reader Gerald Millward shared his experience in response to Monday's review to save others a bit of consternation and time. Gerald did everything "right" in settting up his new Extreme N Base Station but the status light kept flashing amber instead of giving him a steady green. That was perplexing because it worked fine despite the flashing amber light. He worked on it for awhile and then called Apple. According to Gerald, Apple Support told him that,

"... if you don't opt to select one of the options for securing Airport Extreme it will remind you that you didn't by flashing the amber light."

To stop it, one has to either re-configure and select a security option or

"...go into Utilities, Airport Utility, Summary, and click on the Base Station Status light. That takes you to a screen that tells you why the amber light is blinking--and provides an option for deactivating the light and turning it to green."
