Helvetica font (or typeface) was one of eleven original digital fonts on the Mac. Since the Mac with the laser printer gave rise to desktop publishing, Helvetica was the frequent choice of fonts in the budding computer graphics arts field.

Helvetica was designed in 1957 in the Swiss town of Muenchenstein by Edouard Hoffmann and Max Miedinger. It has become the most widely distributed font next to Microsoft's Arial, a knockoff of Helvetica. More... [Dana Baggett]
