Mac beats PC in Popular Mechanics Shootout--Faster, Better and Cheaper
In an article entitled Mac vs. PC: The Ultimate Lab Test for New Desktops & Laptops, appearing in the May 2008 issue of Popular Mechanics, both platforms are compared with user and speed tests and by cost.
The Macs are the previous generation $1499 2.4 GHz iMac and $1299 2.2GHz MacBook, both running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. The PCs are a similar-to-iMac-looking $1800 Gateway One desktop and a $1299 Asus M51SR 15.4" laptop, both running Windows Vista.
Users preferred the iMac and MacBook by 1/2 star each over the respective PC. The Macs tested faster in most of the speed tests. The Macs are equal to or less costly than the respective PCs.
