Bell Atlantic

My AdTran Express XRT ISDN terminal adapter arrived by UPS yesterday setting my mind a little more at ease about getting hooked up on Friday without much drama. Bell Atlantic made good on its promise to special order one for me when I called last week and found that it was backordered. I picked the AdTran partly because it allows an analog modem to be hooked up to the same computer without using another serial port. I was a bit apprehensive when I couldn't find the words "Apple" or "Macintosh" anywhere on the outside of the box but inside there was a Configuration Wizard diskette labelled Version 1.3 for Macintosh and some small passages on the Mac in the manual. It seems that just like regular external analog modems, ISDN terminal adapters really only differ in the RS-232 connection cable (none was supplied for a PC or a Mac) and software between Mac and PC bundles--AdTran supplied software for both the Mac and PC (Windows 95 and 3.11 versions). The terminal adapter is about twice the size of a regular modem and its cord, with RJ-45 jacks, is more than twice the size of a regular telephone cord with RJ-11 jacks. More on all this later.
