I went to CompUSA to get the RS-232 cable (M-F DB-25) necessary to hook up my 56K analog modem to the ISDN terminal adapter. I usually frequent MicroCenter because of their excellent if a bit pricey Mac department but I wanted to see if the Apple/CompUSA deal to build Apple boutique's in the CU store had trickled down yet (OK, I know I'm impatient!). Nope. The Mac "section" was still in the back right corner with a Macintosh banner over it. However, the section was filled with printers, scanners, Compaq's and a bunch of non-Mac boxes--storage space. There were two Macs and both were 6500's, one was a 225 and the other was a 300, but there were no signs even pointing out that they were Macs much less which Macs and their features. The 6500/225 was turned sideways but amazingly both were on but with Apple System Profiler open, no less. Apparently, they were saving a few bucks on signage by using Apple System Profiler! Of course, there were no sales people in the Mac "section" and none approached with me as I played around with the 6500/300 for about 10 minutes--they just stood around doing nothing in the PC area. I looked in the laptop section and the PowerBooks that were at the left end several months ago had disappeared--none anywhere. Totally disgusted, I left without the cable, drove across town (not that far actually) to MicroCenter and bought it there. I'll believe the Apple/CompUSA deal when I see it.
