ClarisWorks 5.0 "Underline" Print Problem
ClarisWorks 5.0 "Underline" Print Problem -- Word processors usually provide at least three ways to create an underlined space (ULS), i.e. a place for a signature or date or any other information, in a document. (1) The easiest way for large or formatted ULSs is to use the tab key and underline function (usually command-U), (2) the easiest way for very short ULSs is with the repeated underline keystroke (like a typewriter) and (3) the third way is with the repeated space keystroke and underline function. There is now only one way to do it with the new version of ClarisWorks and have it actually print and that is to use the repeated underline keystroke. Warning! the other two ways, using the underline function, incredibly provide an underline on screen but it does not print. Worse yet, ULSs in documents created with the underline function under previous versions of ClarisWorks do not print out in v5.0 rendering past work useless. [Note -- This issue appeared on MacNN Saturday and I confirmed it with my copy of ClarisWorks 5.0 and Epson Stylus Color 500 printer.] This means that the most recent version of each of my three principal word processors has a significant bug: Word 6.01a has frustrating highlighting errors, WordPerfect 3.5.4 won't print envelopes from my Quadra 605 on my HP Deskwriter and now ClarisWorks 5.0 won't print underlined spaces formatted with tabs.
