CompUSA

Several readers wrote to suggest that CompUSA stores be given a chance to reform along the lines of the Apple/CompUSA agreement before bashing them. I agree, of course, and the list of the Mac-Unfriendly CompUSA stores is not intended to be bashing them. The list is intended to highlight to the Mac community the magnitude of the effort needed to implement the Apple/CompUSA agreement--everybody knows it will take a little time to do so. However, one reader reported that the Huntington Beach, CA, CompUSA was in the process of setting up the Apple store in the store yesterday! Check out the QuickTimeVR "photos" of the Pleasanton, CA, CompUSA -- now that's a Mac section! Here's an updated Mac-Unfriendly list based on readers' reports:
  • Anchorage, AK
  • Atlanta, GA
  • Dallas, TX
  • El Paso, TX
  • Huntington Beach, CA
  • Manchester, CT
  • Novi, MI
  • Oklahoma City, OK
  • Pittsburgh, PA
  • Raleigh, NC
  • Redondo Beach, CA
  • San Diego, CA
  • Sunnyvale (Santa Clara?), CA
  • Towson, MD
  • Tysons Corner, VA
More people lauded MicroCenter for their Mac section and even Computer City and CDW. The Computer City's in Northern Virginia have gone out of business but had only fair Mac sections. In San Diego, CA, Computer City is marginal, in my opinion, but Creative Computers (MacMall) is excellent. Please let me know how your local CompUSA store stacks up a present.
