Grahame Herrick wrote me Sunday announcing his release of Finder Windows v1.2.2:

MacOS 7.6.1 Shutdown Freeze Update:

Frequent readers may recall that when I installed MacOS 7.6.1 on my Quadra 605 the day it came out, I reported that the only problem was a freeze at shutdown that required a reboot inorder to shutdown. Ted Landau carried my note on MacFixIt.

Well, the shutdown problem has disappeared. I just had the opportunity to update several applications on my Q605 (Aaron 1.5.3 --> 1.6.1; PPPMenu 2.0.2 turned off; TechTool 1.1.1 --> 1.1.4; Eudora 3.0.1 --> 3.1; and Fetch 3.0.1--> 3.0.3) and one of these actions, most likely the Aaron update or turning off PPPMenu 2.02 (I was having too many mishandled PPP connections on my other computers), is the cause.

I am using Open Transport 1.1.1, not 1.1.2, and do not use a RAM disk so those were not the cause of my problem.

Late Addition: I tried unsuccessfully to recreate the shutdown freeze to find out what caused it. It did it a half dozen times or more in a row when I installed MacOS 7.6.1 last month right up to when I had to catch a plane. Its not any combination of Aaron 1.5.3, PPPMenu 2.02 or use of Open Transport, Netscape Defrost or Ethernet software. Maybe just some bad electrons or magnetic matter had to die of old age in a month of non-use?
