Today the San Jose Mercury News broke a story on a secret Apple project called "Star Trek" that successfully got the Mac OS to run on Intel-based computers back in 1992--several years ahead of Microsoft's Windows 95. The project was killed in mid-1993 to focus exclusively on the PowerPC. Is this another one of those missed Apple opportunities? Will the results of this project be revived and allow Apple to market the Mac OS to current Wintel users and to use Intel CPUs in future Macs?
