Axed HFS+ Drive ?
"1. Start up from the Mac OS 8.1 emergency Disk Tools disk. The disk will allow you to see the defective HFS+ disk.2. Run Disk First Aid on the defective HFS+ hard drive from the Start up disk.
3. Rename the present System Folder to "Previous System Folder" on the defective HFS+ disk.
4. Install 0S8.1 onto the defective HFS+ disk from an 0S8.1 CD ROM with the clean install option.
5. Go to Control Panels, open Startup Disk and select the formerly defective HFS+ hard drive with the new System Folder.
6. Restart and move 3rd party system items from the "Previous System Folder" to the new System Folder."
While this might work for some problems with the system file, I did the first 2 steps to no avail and couldn't do the latter because the problem HFS+ drive couldn't be written to. Nevertheless, this procedure can help with some problems.
