Mac OS 8.1 Update 6 --

I initialized my backup hard disk, a 3.2 GB Quantum Stratus, with Apple's new Extended Format (HFS+) using the finder's "Erase Disk" command under the Special menu. When reloaded, the available space rose from 146 MB to 564.6 MB thanks to the new format.

Regarding Saturday's MathLib 1.3 issue, the consensus on MacCentral's readers forum is that it is integrated into Mac OS 8.1 and not a separate extension.

Until the Apple CD arrives, Macs Only! will now be following only problems that signicantly affect most Mac users. To keep up with all the complications and conflicts, I recommend regular visits to Ted Landau's MacFixIt.
