A Sears/iMac Story

"Our eldest son is getting married this week and my wife Annie surprised me by readily agreeing to my offhand suggestion that an iMac might be a nice wedding present. When she saw the Sears ad of the iMac, Epson printer, UMAX scanner, and Zip bundle, she thought it was great. So...I went to our "local" Sears and asked for the bundle in Blueberry. An excellent sales clerk explained that the Terre Haute Sears had NO iMacs in stock. They'd had some at one time and sold them all without the stock ever being replentished. He said an Apple rep had said the iMac was cancelled for a time and then re-instated. That sounded to me like a Sears-Apple squabble, but the net result is, 'You can't buy an iMac in Terre Haute.'

"I left the store emptyhanded, but called the clerk later and placed a phone order...at Annie's, my Novell techie wife, insistance! The clerk called back within 10 minutes to say he could order any color but Blueberry and have it there by Wednesday evening! So...my kid's getting Lime...if it arrives in time. I think I read on your site that lime was faster, anyway :-).

"The clerk confirmed that he only draws a 1% commission on an iMac, as opposed to 3 1/2 to 5% on PC's. Although he personally works on a PC, he did a good job of representing the iMac and Sears. Too bad he doesn't have any in stock to sell.
