Mac OS X PB at Macs Only!
We are not having as much luck with our Power Mac G4 Sawtooth and spent much of last evening trying to get Mac OS X PB to install on a 40 GB hard drive attached to a Sonnet Tempo ATA66 card instead of the primary drive. First, it took an exceptionally long time to get even a partially up to date Mac OS 9.0.4 onto the drive's partition set up for Mac OS X PB. It seems that everybody is doing that since Apple's servers, either using the Software Update control panel or direct downloading, are bogged down. We eventually gave up trying to get the many updates. Then our G4 would not start up while pressing the "c" key during a restart with Mac OS X PB in the DVD drive. The G4 similarly hung during the restart after clicking on the Mac OS X PB installer. The installation failure is probably due to one or more of these issues: a Voodoo5 video card driving the main monitor, a second video card (ATI Rage Pro) driving a second monitor, the target hard drive is not the main hard drive or the target hard drive is attached to a Tempo controller PCI card. The Mac OS X PB documentation states that the installer may not work with 2 monitors and 2 video cards but we're reserving this riddle for the weekend and will report on it then.
