Apple ISP?

As frequent readers know, in recent web news history Macs Only! 7/1 suggested that Apple may need to counter the Windows "Free PC", a discount off the internet services of Microsoft (Macs Only! 6/12) and CompuServe (AOL), by re-initiating its own internet service once called eWorld. Macs Only! 7/3 even suggested that it would be called "eWorld" once again and noted that eworld.com was still owned by Apple and that it pointed to an iMac page (Macs Only! 7/7). The original 7/1 post was followed up a day later by MacInTouch, two days later by The Register citing MacInTouch, three days later with a second Register story and yesterday by MacCentral and ZDNet citing The Register's second story, all speculating that Apple might start up an ISP or a portal site presumably better than the current one. Finally, there is the interesting 1998 story that My Mac Magazine almost licensed "eWorld" from Apple as the name for My Mac. Tim Robertson, Publisher of My Mac, wrote, "A lot has been made as of late that eworld.com now points to apple.com. [Macs Only! 7/7] Do they have plans for the eWorld name after all this time? Well, while we all wait for Macworld Expo to find out, you can learn what almost happened to the eWorld name!"
