CVGS Watch: A Work-Around for the Castlevania Game-Save Problem

Possible work-around to reported game-save problem with Castlevania: Symphony of the Night in CVGS 1.0 and 1.1
To: plucky@mindspring.com Subject: CVGS watch - Castlevania save game workaround From: Berit BensonDate: Mon, 1 Feb 1999 11:34:58 -0800 Greetings, I just thought I would add some information concerning the Castlevania save game problem. I have found a workaround for the problem. Thanks, Berit Benson Below is the information that I sent to Connectix concerning Castlevania. This problem occurs with both version 1.0 and 1.1 My complaint was that I could start a new game, and save games but I could not load a saved game. The direction arrows and select button would not work. I have since found out the exact problem and have come up with a work around (it's not pretty but it works). Problem: Once a game has been saved, the memory cards never finish loading. The screen stays on the "Loading memory card" message. The problem occurs if the two memory cards have different save slots filled in. The two memory cards both have to exist and have the same number (and I am presuming) the same actual slots filled in for the restore game screen to finish loading. Combinations that do NOT work: Memory Card (MC) 1 exists and MC 2 does not. (vice versa) MC 1 has one saved game and MC 2 does not. (vice versa) MC 1 has two saved games and MC2 only has one (vice versa) Combination that does work: MC 1 and MC2 have the same number of save games and the save games are in the same location on both cards. The easiest way that I accomplished this was to duplicate MC1 and use the copy in Memory Slot 2 I think the same thing could be accomplished by saving the game twice in a row. Once to Memory Slot 1 and then again to Memory Slot 2. My configuration is a G3/300 rev 2 128 mb ram with 32 mb dedicated to VGS Virtual Memory disabled (tried enabling it, but I still encountered the problem) Built in ATI graphics card with 6mbs Apple 2x/24x DVD/CDRom drive GameWizard 12mb Voodoo II card (shouldn't make a difference, but who knows)
