The Low End PowerMac G4

should be kept according to all who responded to yesterdays' afterthought. Some said the low end PowerMac must have a G4 chip but the iMac DV Special Edition could get one when Yikes is terminated. Others said that the low end PowerMac user would never settle for a 15" monitor but one has to buy a monitor for the low end PowerMac and the iMac has video out. For about the same price as the low end PowerMac and large monitor, the iMac and large monitor yields two monitors to work with. This would be a real advantage if the monitors could work in parallel as well as a mirror. Still others mentioned that the low end PowerMac will get a Sawtooth board when Yikes is retired but this is not certain. The most convincing argument is that there is a very large number of people, PC users and Mac users alike, who like to personally customize their computers' internals at a price point much less than $2000. I have fallen neatly into this category myself for personal purchases for the past 5 or more years even though an iMac with video out and a 21" monitor is my perfect work computer. The high end iMac doesn't allow much internal meddling although the RAM can go up to 512 MB and hot-swapable FireWire devices will reduce the need for internal customization. Dana Baggett pointed out that the high end iMac's graphite color is also consistent with the PowerMac G4 series but we still hope, of course, that the low end PowerMac is kept in Apple's line up. I just fear that it won't.
