Hands-On MiniReview--UniTrap Mouse: A little over a week ago (5/21), Macs only! reported that Contour Design began shipping its $14.95 UniTrap Mouse, a three-piece shell that converts Apple's new disc mouse into a more conventionally-shaped mouse. Macs Only! used a UniTrap mouse provided for evaluation by Contour for the past week in place of its usual and much-cherished Logitech cordless 3-button mouse. Apple's disc mouse is great for kids' hands but not for adults', at least not for adults that have used an elongated mouse for a long time. To convert the disc into the UniTrap, one simply pops the colored parts off of the disc, drops it into the UniTrap's lower shell, aligns the cord, pops the desired-color button (it comes with blueberry but the other four colors are also included) into the upper shell and snaps the upper shell on. Contour has an instruction page with photos. It's simple to assemble and it fits together much tighter than I expected, feeling substantial. Like Contour's USB Unimouse previously reviewed on Macs Only!, the UniTrap is teardrop shaped and over an inch high with a rounded back so it fits well in one's hand. And by removing the colored parts from Apple's disc mouse, the UniTrap is no wider that the disc mouse. I found it very comfortable and I like the way that the cord protrudes upward from the mouse, reducing cord snagging. The click is solid. It won't replace my cordless mouse but it would definitely replace an Apple disc mouse if I were using one. The UniTrap appears to be the better of the disc mouse conversions on the market. As a conversion or as a one-button mouse, it gets a 5 of 5!
