Mercury CPU ZIF In XLR8 Carrier ZIF

On the past weekend I posted a note from a reader who had problems getting his CarrierZIF to work with OWCs Mercury ZIF CPU. He was not the first but I posted his note as an example. Larry O'Connor of OWC wrote to explain,

"As of 8/23 we have been including a supplemental manual with our XLR8/Mercury bundles since the XLR8 manual makes it confusing concerning jumper settings. The link for our manual is:here. In any event, we have found most customers fail to set their jumpers correctly (notably those that control bus speed) and including the supplement corrected the issue. Also, our tech support has been EXTREMELY responsive to queries.

Unless I'm missing something, I'm a little concerned with the nature of your 'news' posting. We have shipped over 1000 of the Mercury/XLR8 bundles with excellent response, most notable on the XLR8yourmac.com USER ratings board.

I do hope that you follow up on your posting." [I haven't checked Mike Breeden's database for PowerBase users. However, I plan to run a test with a Mercury G3 ZIF CPU in my PowerBase 180 courtesy of OWC, Inc.--Bill]
