500 MHz PowerBook 2000 Price Drop to $2799

with Apple's $200 rebate from the Apple Store. We checked ClubMac and MacMall and both are advertising the net $500 price drop on the 500 MHz model with incentives. [Dana Baggett] The older PB500 with a 12 GB (instead of 20 GB) hard drive is advertised by them for another $200 off. In addition, Don Harris wrote that the education price on the Apple Store is even $300 lower, now $2499 for the 500 MHz model. [Update: Dana Baggett sent a page from the Education Apple Store showing the 400 MHz model for $1999 and the 500 MHz model for $2999, more than regular retail?] Does this signal that faster G3 CPUs or a PowerBook G4 are about to come out? Maybe there's just a big over supply of the 500 MHz model.
