MP3.Com provides access to its digital music over the internet after verifying that the requester has a CD of the music requested, about as close to real ownership of the music as possible. Other digital music web sites like Napster with a pending copyright trial do not even try to verify ownership. But Napster is trying to differentiate itself from the MP3.Com issues and decision as much as possible according to this CNet article.
