Updated 5:40p--Apple Will Announce Its Second Quarter Financial Results Today
Apple will surely post a profit and, if true to recent form, it will beat the analysts consensus projection. [Update: Apple's first quarter profit was $183 million and earnings per diluted share were $1.03, busting analysts' estimates of $0.87-0.89 as related in a QuickTime "telephone" conference with Apple's CFO Fred Anderson. Sales were 1.377 million computers (up 46 per cent), including: 700,000 iMacs, 235,000 iBooks, about 350,000 PowerMac G4s and, by subtraction, about 92,000 PowerBooks. International sales represented 51 per cent of the quarter's revenue. Anderson said that the EarthLink deal announced at Macworld will bring $25-35 million additional gross profit in the second quarter and will ramp up non-linearly. Anderson also dodged all questions about upcoming products, including probes on the next PowerBook. Here is Apple's press release.]
