Apple Store Openings, Pix and a Movie

by Tadd Torborg:

"I made it to both Palisades and Rockingham. It was about 3 and a half hours drive between the two. Unfortunately limitations in modern technology precluded my actually being at both locations when they opened their doors for the first time within few minutes of each other at 9 AM on Saturday. I picked Palasades because then when I drove "home" to Rockingham at least I could crash for the night in my own bed. See the movie. It's great.

"The Palisades Center Mall is enormous. It's quite a bit bigger than any other mall I've been to. It also is much louder and more industrial looking. The mall is right on it's own exit (exit 12) of the New York Thruway/Interstate-87, the only Interstate connecting New York City with the rest of New York State. I-87 is a limited access highway and is 3 lanes in each direction, sometimes 4. This mall is 300 feet from that highway and is very visible and did I mention that it was large? It has a ferris wheel inside it as well as an iMax movie theatre.

"The Apple store is tucked in a rather out of the way on the first floor. It is near Filenes and across the way from a Rain-Forest Cafe. It's more or less right underneath the main entrance to the mall which lets in on the 2nd floor. The Tice's Corner Apple Store opened a month ago 10 miles away but at a much less trafficked location. I didn't expect to see the 'desparate for the first Apple Store in the region' crowd show up at this one and so it was. The line was much shorter, fitting entirely in the store minutes after it opened.

"I put together a web page including links to the movie. The other store opening pages I've been to, and this one, are linked here.

"I'll be filing a report on the Rockingham at Salem New Hampshire store opening tomorrow. A friend in New Hampshire shot some pix of the door opening and the lines and whatnot so we'll file a joint web essay."
