Tip--Mac OS X and Windows File Sharing, Use Sharity

We noted in our wrap-up comments on Mac OS X PB last January 3rd that the only major deficit was not being able to connect to Windows servers on a Windows NT 4 network. To our chagrin, we were unable to connect to Windows servers with Mac OS X 10.0 and noted so in our Hands-On Report posted Monday. Well, no more worries. Sharity v2.8b9, a third party application from Objective Development, does the job and does it very well. Sharity has a Mac OS X interface and we used it to connect to any server on a large Windows NT 4.0 network from our G4 Cube. In addition, we used Sharity to connect to our Compaq Presario on our ethernet LAN from hardwired Macs and access its files. However, we haven't been able to connect via AirPort. [Update: We can now connect via AirPort with our PowerBook.] A single user license for a single CIFS server with three levels, basically the demo, is FREE. Site server and client licenses are available.
