WARNING

New Internet Explorer v5.1.1 for Mac OS X Update Kills QuickTime in OmniWeb: IE 5.1.1 installed QuickTime Plug In v5.0B which apparently is not compatible with OmniWeb 4.0. We should all thank the engineers at Microsoft for this nasty little present. Hopefully, The Omni Group will update OmniWeb soon.

[Update: MacFixit posted a workaround. It requires that you to have a copy of the old QuickTime Plugin.plugin file which you do if you haven't installed IE 5.1.1 yet. Go to the Library -> Internet Plug-ins folder and make a copy of it and store it on another disk or partition if possible. Install IE 5.1.1 then go to the Library -> Internet Plug-ins folder and rename the the "QuickTime Plugin.plugin" v5.0B installed by IE5.1.1 to "NewQuickTime Plugin.plugin". Then place the copy of the original plugin v5.0 in the same folder. If you have already installed IE 5.1.1, you can get a copy of QuickTime Plugin.plugin v5.0 from the Public Folder Macs Only!'s iDisk. We tried it and now QuickTime works in both IE 5.1.1 and OmniWeb. Apparently, IE finds and uses new plugin despite it being renamed.]
