Apple iBooks Successful in Maine School District

according to this Bangor News article. From the article:

"So Oliver [Superintendent Matthew Oliver] decided to write a report about the successful laptop program at Piscataquis Community Middle School, which incorporated portable Apple iBook laptops into the curriculum in 2000 thanks to a $100,000 gift from Guilford of Maine. The small, rural school system was the first in Maine to try such an experiment, and one of the first in the nation. 'Everything out in the media was negative,' Oliver said. 'We stepped back and said, 'Wait a minute, we're having incredible success."

Contrast this with the Montgomery County, MD, Public School System, one of the wealthiest in the Nation, which decided to spend many millions of dollars primarily to serve administrators and the disciples of Microsoft and its Wintel Axis. [Dana Baggett via MacSurfer]
