Apple Macintosh Manager 2.2.2 is Out
-- Holiday Weekend, November 9-11 --
[Update 2:20p 11/11] Scoop! 1GHz PowerBook G4's Are in Apple Stores: While visiting our local Appple Store this afternoon we heard a staff member tell a potential buyer that the 1 GHz Powerbook G4 with SuperDrive arrived this morning but there were only enough to make a dent in the waiting list. The manager was busy calling people on the list to let them know that their PowerBooks are in. We confirmed this with another staff member who mentioned that he alone had signed up a dozen people over the weekend. It looks like this $2,999 PowerBook with ATI 9000 64 MB DDR RAM graphics will be a big success.
[Update 9a 11/11] D-Link Bluetooth Adaptors Available in Apple Stores: When we visited the Tysons Corner Apple Store on Friday we noted that they finally had a supply of the adapters for sale in the store. The Sony-Ericsson T68i phone, with built-in Bluetooth and the capabilty to accept Address Book contacts and iCal calendars via iSync, is now selling for $50 after a rebate from Amazon.com and from ATT Wireless, at least locally in the Greater DC area. We have used our T68i for 6 months and with iSync have no need for a bulkier PDA. We also use the T68i to connect our PowerBook G4 to the internet for email, particularly while in airports. It's much easier than trying to find an available phone with a data port and then precariously balancing a $3000 computer while trying to make a connection.
[Update 8:30a 11/11] Print Window 2.0.1 for X is Out and available for download. "Although Mac OS X is light-years ahead of the Classic Mac OS in many ways, there are still some ways in which the Classic Mac OS Finder is superior to the Mac OS X Finder. One of these ways is the Classic Finder's ability to print the contents of Finder windows. The Mac OS X Finder has no such built-in functionality."
"Print Window is an easy-to-use utility designed to rectify this deficiency. With Print Window, users can generate and print full file listings for any volume or directory from directly within the Mac OS X Finder."
"Not only can Print Window generate simple file listings, it can also generate complex listings including file information, icons and even the contents of subfolders (something the Classic Finder could not easily accomplish)."
Print Window is $5-10 donationware.
[Update 8a 11/11] Mac Sighting--The Drew Carey Show: From Bill George,
On the Drew Carey show Friday night, I was watching the opening. As you might be aware, Drew's show features Macintosh on the desk of many of the characters. In a recent time(last year), he left the job at the dept store, and joined an internet company whose desks are supplied with iMacs.
On the opening of this show of Friday, he had one of his dance sequences- with a slight difference. The dance sequence was about laptops that had crashed and weren't working. I noticed right away that these were window machines. They even had the icons lined up on the right. So the dance begins, and during the sequence, they go to the IT guy to get help, and he throws up his hands. Ok, not so funny, but the IT guy looks like Bill Gates!!!
The sequence ends with all the windows laptops being thrown off the roof top of the building they work in.
It was very slick.

[Update 8:30a 11/10] Dantz Retrospect Updater X 5.0.238 is available for download via MacUpdate.com.
[Update 12:30p 11/9] ArcherPro Multimedia Viewer 3.0 is Out and available for download. Parker Software Development, Inc. has just released ArcherPro 3.0.0. ArcherPro is a small, fast, easy-to-use multimedia viewer. Most commands can be executed with a single keystroke. ArcherPro, like its freeware counterpart Archer, lets you mix still images, audio files, and movies in the same slide show. However, ArcherPro has features not found in Archer: features like sequenced image export, integrated database for future growth, the handy Destination Folders feature, and more. This release includes the following new features and improvements:
Pan Image - When viewing images, you now have the option of panning. This is handy when the image is too large for your display. Normally when you drag an image, ArcherPro assumes you are dragging the image to another player or folder. To toggle between Panning and Drag and Drop, simply select Pan Image from the Play menu or hit the "G" key.
Tag Image - If you see an image you like, hit the "T" key or select Tag Image from the Play menu. A blue bar appears at the top of the image. To remove the tag, press the T key again. When you use the Export Slide Show command, you will be given the opportunity to export the entire slide show or only the images that you have tagged. Tags are saved with your ArcherPro documents.
Clear All Tags - To clear all the tags you have set, select the Clear All Tags command from the Edit menu.
Warn On Delete - Normally ArcherPro silently deletes the displayed image from your hard drive when you hit the "D" key. You can change this using the Preferences window. There is a new "Warn On Delete" preference that, when enabled, will display a dialog asking if you really want to delete the image.
Rendering Improvements - The last couple of releases have introduced bugs that caused scaling problems for some images. These have been fixed.
