"Let's Make a Deal" at Apple Education Store

From Bill Jensen,

"Bill, just thought I would mention that it is "let's make a deal" time at the apple store for education. We called in over the weekend, inquiring about the configuration of a edu only model, an 867 quicksilver machine for $1252, but if I bought that night, he would drop the price by $75. The rep did not know if it had the L3 cache, like the original 867 quicksilver. So we checked with an apple rep at Compusa in Fair Lakes, VA (who thought it did not) and the Genius Bar at the Apple Store (who thought it did). We called again tonight, and the rep we talked to this time checked with his supervisor, who informed him that it had a 1meg L3 cache on the processor (not the 2 meg that was on the original retail 867) but we still would be able to get the "promotional" discount of $75 bringing the total down to $1177. Not bad for a new machine, and they told me it ships with jaguar installed. We ordered the 867, and hope that they are correct on the L3 cache. While it is not as sweet as the dual 867 (which would also qualify for the $75 discount) it is a very nice price, and he can get an iPod for the difference in price."
