• OS X users: Have you checked out the "Grab" feature? It is a built-in goodie that allows you to take a screen shot of either your entire screen, or a selection of it. You can find it in the Utilities folder, in the OS X Applications folder. I prefer to use the "Timed Screen" feature of Grab, where it gives you ten seconds before it takes the shot. When you are in Grab, other windows appear somewhat grayed out -- so if you want to make an image of a specific window, you can switch to that application during the ten seconds so that window appears selected in the image. This takes an image of the entire screen, so if you only want a portion of it you can crop the image in any graphics program (by default, the file will be saved as a graphic in the .tiff format).
