Maine Education iBook Deal--Will the Luddites Prevail?

Apple has a contract with Maine to supply over 30,000 iBooks, AirPort gear, training and support so that all seventh and eighth graders in Maine and their teachers get one, a story that broke here on Macs Only! The iBook program is strongly supported by Governor King. We have pointed out from time to time that the pilot effort has been going swimmingly but that budget problems, like those in most if not all states, resulted in attacks on the state funding for the contract. Now from Dana Baggett, "A great commentary on the few in the Maine Legislature who are trying to save a buck today at the expense of our kids future. The Legislature dropped the sales tax back to 5% when times were better and they can easily raise it again if they have the guts."
