Brief Hands-On Report--AirPort 4.2

Apple released Airport 4.2 for Mac OS X 10.4.2 and 10.3.3-to-.9 plus Windows. The updater also contains updates for the AirPort Extreme (to v5.6) and Express (to v6.2) Base Stations. According to the Read Me file,

AirPort 4.2 fixes connection problems and resolves security issues with WPA2 wireless networks.

According to the Apple Support pages,

This update fixes compatibility with Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA2) security software on AirPort Express and AirPort Extreme base stations. This update also resolves IPv6 link local configuration issues.

To update an AirPort Extreme or Express Base Station, launch the AirPort Admin Utility in Mac OS X's Utilities folder, select the Base Station, click on Configure and a dialog box will pop down to update the Base Station.

We updated Power Mac G5s, iMac G5s and PowerBook G4s without difficulty. Then we updated AirPort Extreme and Express Base Stations, also without difficulty. We don't use WPA2 or IPv6 so we can't explicitly check the fixes. [Bill Fox]
